LIGHT INDICATION

POSSIBLE CAUSES

SOLUTION

Power and Resume Blinking, Pen Off Carriage stall. Switch the printer off. Cancel the print job at the computer and switch the printer back on. Resend the document to the printer.
The printer is in an unknown state or the motor cable is disconnected.
Power and Resume On The printer failed. Cycle power. If light indications recur, the logic PCA will have to be replaced.
Power Blinking, Resume and Pen Off The computer-to-printer connection has failed. Switch off the printer, disconnect the printer cable, switch on the printer. Initiate the self-test printout (push and hold the Power key, then push the Form Feed key 4 times). If the self-test printout is OK, the printer is OK. Reconnect the printer cable and re-send the file. If the printout still fails, try another printer cable. Additionally, verify the proper printer driver and parallel port are selected. 
Power On and Resume Flashing Printer "timed out" waiting for a form-feed command. If print cartridge error, install or change print cartridge. If out of paper, load paper. Press and release Resume button to continue.
Recoverable error occurred (i.e. out-of-paper or print cartridge error). Press and release Resume button to print page.
Timed out waiting for form-feed command. Press the Resume button. The page should print and eject to the OUT tray.
Power On and Resume Flashing (Carriage Centered) Printer is On but off-line. Print cartridge access enabled. Change print cartridge and/or close access door or press and release Resume button to continue.
Power On and Resume Flashing (Carriage in Service Station) Printer is On but off-line. Print cartridge is capped. Close access door or press and release Resume button to continue.
Power On, Resume and Pen Off Failure of host or interface cable. Verify the host is operating correctly by printing to another printer. Verify the interface cable is an approved interface cable. The interface cable may be faulty. Check the interface cable connections or try another interface port. Wrong interface connection. For example, the printer is connected to the serial port (e.g. COM1) rather than a parallel interface port. The computer-to-printer connection has failed. Unplug the printer from your computer and try printing a self test.
Power On, Resume Blinking, Pen Off Paper is jammed in the printer. Procedure for clearing paper jams:

1. Remove paper from the IN tray and OUT tray.
2. Remove the IN/OUT tray assembly from the printer.
3. Open the access door.
4. While pulling gently on the jammed paper, press and hold the Form Feed key to turn the feed rollers backward. Release and press again on the form feed key to change direction of the paper feed rollers.
5. Verify all scraps of paper are removed from the printer path. 
6. Look for any other obstructions along the paper path.
7. With the paper path clear, cycle power.
The paper is improperly loaded. Remove the paper, tap it on a flat surface to straighten it, and then reload it.
The printer is out of paper or is waiting for a manual feed. Load the printer with paper and press the Form Feed key.
Power On, Resume Flashing, Pen Off Printer detects an empty ink cartridge. Replace the print cartridge and press the Resume button.
Printer detects out of paper condition. Reload the printer with paper.
Power On, Resume Off, Pen Blinking One or both pen cartridges are not installed correctly. Verify both printer cartridges are installed (both need to be installed before the printer will print). Remove and reinstall the print cartridges replacing any that are out of ink.
Top cover is open. Close the printer's top cover and cycle power. If light indications recur, the logic PCA will have to be replaced.
Power, Resume, Pen Off Printer is in an undefined state. Verify the top of the printer is closed. Cycle power. If light indications recur, the logic PCA will have to be replaced.
Printer is not connected to an active power source. Verify that the powered receptacle is active. Make sure no additional switches or breakers are off, such as a switch on a power strip. Try a different power receptacle.
Printer is off. Press and release power button to turn on.

LIGHT INDICATION

POSSIBLE CAUSES

Power and Resume Flashing Alternately Fatal error occurred (i.e. paper jam, carriage stall). If there is a paper jam, follow this procedure for clearing paper jams:

1. Remove paper from the IN tray and OUT tray.
2. Remove the IN/OUT tray assembly from the printer.
3. Open the access door.
4. While pulling gently on the jammed paper, press and hold the Form Feed key to turn the feed rollers backward. Release and press again on the form feed key to change direction of the paper feed rollers.
5. Verify all scraps of paper are removed from the printer path. 
6. Look for any other obstructions along the paper path.
7. With the paper path clear, cycle power. Otherwise, press and release power button to turn off. Press and release power button to turn on.
Printer detects a carriage stall condition. With the printer turned Off, slide the carriage across the carriage rod. Remove any obstruction from the carriage path. Disconnecting then reconnecting the power module might be required to recover from a carriage stall.
Printer detects a paper jam condition. Clear the paper jam by feeding paper through the paper path. Do not pull the paper out by force. With the printer on, open the access door and press and hold the Resume button. This will cause the drive rollers to move. Release the Resume button and press again to move the rollers in the opposite direction. Otherwise the print mech will have to be taken apart to free paper.
